Lancs v Worcs Day 3

A day ruined by rain and the chances of a result wrecked by cricket administrators decision to bring back use of the heavy roller during matches ( when did they sneak that one under the radar – and do any of these faceless people ever watch cricket or talk to cricket followers?)

Worcs had the best of the morning session taking their score onto 301 without losing a wicket at the lunch interval. Heavy rain then completely washed out the afternoon session. Play resumed after tea and saw Daryl Mitchell fall for 74 having put on a partnership of 96 with Gareth Andrew who followed quickly having reached his 50. The  Worcs innings folded tamely to 334 all out.

Proctor finished with 4 for 58.

On a pitch with all life rolled out of it Lancs openers safely negotiated the remaining 19 overs scoring 42 runs in the process.

Can anybody please explain to me why the heavy roller has been brought back? Do they not want us to watch exciting cricket and players showing their skills on difficult pitches !!!
